Challenge
This majestic 14,000 sq ft mansion, the largest private house on the river between Twickenham and Westminster, is a Grade II* listed building of special architectural and historic interest. Designed in early Victorian Italianate style, it features a grand staircase, a clock tower, fountains, and ornate classical gardens. With all this in mind, the restoration and renovation of this heritage property demanded meticulous execution to preserve its original splendour.
Approach
Our approach began with a thorough assessment of the mansion's architectural and historical significance. To do this, we collaborated closely with heritage consultants and local planning authorities to ensure compliance with listed building consent regulations. By carefully studying the building's original features, we developed a design strategy that respected its historical integrity while incorporating modern amenities.
Solution
This project involved navigating complex and restrictive rules for listed building consent, architectural, and interior design concepts. Our strategic approach and sensitive design ensured the preservation of original features, plus, a new double-storey extension revitalised the building, transforming it into an impressively luxurious private residence. The result is a home that seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary luxury, making the mansion a standout property on the river.
