Sometimes at Urbanist Architecture we receive a project brief that can be a real challenge. This was a new build house planning permission project from our client that received refusal for the applications previous architects prepared so it was causing our client a headache. We wanted to help get this new build off the ground and turn a potential disaster into a success story with new build house planning permission for our valued client. A corner plot often comes with more space to play with but also has some real problems too. Our client saw the potential in the amount of space that was available. We needed to help them realise that potential and develop something that was going to look just right for Greenwich Council too.
The real challenge here was to come up with a sympathetic addition to the existing house so it would be passed by the local planning authority. With any new build property in London there are considerations such as scale, appearance and residential amenity that must be taken into account. For instance, the space at the front of the property looked great, but as with many corner plots this tapered as the plot went further back from the road. In order to maintain a decent outdoor space, we had to think carefully about the design.
When designing this corner plot new build house we had to look at how it would function. Obviously, the fact that the previous architects had not managed to get their plans through was a worry. But at Urbanist Architecture we take pride in the fact that we deal with difficult cases. We were able to develop the ideas of our client who had seen this potential for the space on their existing plot of land. This design was one that we took a great deal of care over. Once we knew that our clients were happy with the ideas we had come up with it was time to take it to the local council for approval.
It was a case of making sure that we considered all of the planning considerations for new build house planning permission. We take the great ideas that our clients have and make them a reality. It is safe to say that this client was extremely happy that we were able to turn around this project and make it a success.
