Challenge
Our client acquired a garden plot he wanted to build a home on, however, the plot had a long history of planning refusals, meaning the council wasn’t convinced the site was right for development. Our challenge, therefore, was to prove the site's suitability for a new home despite previous rejections and without relying on its change of ownership as justification.
Approach
We initially proposed a three-bedroom house, but council feedback indicated it would impact neighbours too much. We then redesigned it as a one-bedroom home, focusing on creating a high-quality living space with minimal disruption to the street. Our contemporary design aimed to maximise the use of the small plot while addressing urban housing needs.
Solution
The final design features a boldly contemporary one-bedroom home that respects the surrounding environment and provides additional green space with a lush garden. This approach balances the need for high-quality urban housing with the preservation of the neighbourhood's character. We'll keep you updated on the outcome of this innovative project.
