Challenge
Our clients loved their Grade II-listed warehouse flat, but the 1980s conversion had left it with a dated and impractical interior. So, they wanted to undergo a thorough refurbishment to enhance the flat's historic charm. Of course, to do so, they would need listed building consent and a licence to alter from the freeholder. For a task so complex, it quickly became clear they needed expert guidance. That's when they came to us.
Approach
We planned to strip away many of the 1980s additions, revealing as much of the original structure as possible. This included removing plasterboards, exposing ceiling beams, and adding brick slips to interior walls to match the exterior. We also redesigned the floors, kitchen, bathroom fittings, ventilation, and storage solutions to create a cohesive and practical living space.
Solution
By carefully balancing restoration and modernisation, we transformed the flat into a stylish and functional home. We obtained listed building consent by writing our own heritage statement, ensuring the project respected the building's history. The result is a beautiful blend of 18th-century charm and contemporary living, realising the full potential of this unique property.
