Chartered Town Planner
Scott’s approach to planning is shaped by experience on both sides of the process. Before moving into private practice, he worked as a Planning Officer for a local planning authority, assessing applications, interpreting policy and contributing to the recommendations that inform planning decisions. This first-hand understanding of how councils consider proposals gives him a grounded view of what a submission needs to address, evidence and explain.
Working across urban and rural settings, Scott advises on residential projects ranging from infill and backland development to replacement homes, sensitive renovations, listed buildings and schemes in conservation areas. His experience also includes projects in the Green Belt, Grey Belt and AONB locations, where the planning balance is often particularly finely judged.
As a Chartered Town Planner, Scott combines detailed policy knowledge with a practical reading of each site’s constraints, opportunities and likely planning considerations. He is particularly interested in the point at which a difficult proposal becomes a credible one: through the right evidence, a clear design response and a planning case that is properly attuned to its context.
At Urbanist Architecture, Scott works alongside our practice’s in-house architects, specialist consultants, clients and local planning authorities from early feasibility through to planning submission. His measured approach helps bring key issues into focus early, so that proposals are shaped around the realities of the site, the policy framework and the decision-making process.
Outside work, Scott enjoys cycling, figure skating and exploring Europe by motorcycle. A passionate music collector and vinyl DJ, he brings the same curiosity and enthusiasm to his interests outside planning as he does to helping clients realise ambitious projects.
