Listed Building

Listed building architects helping you maximise space, light, comfort and value

Getting planning permission and listed building consent can be a lengthy, complicated process but we know how to take all of the complexity in planning permission and simplify it while adding aesthetics, functionality and value to listed buildings.

As listed building architects, planning consultants and interior designers, our strengths include knowledge of all aspects of heritage design and planning permission for listed building applications, especially in the boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Greenwich and Camden.

Our rich experience in listed buildings combined with our proven design and planning strategies means that choosing us as your listed building architects will help you drive your vision forward.

Unlock the potential of your listed building

Listed buildings are protected from insensitive alterations that could damage their historical significance as their continued presence adds to contemporary environments and enriches our architectural vistas. These changes must be carefully considered and executed but progress and innovative new uses and additions of modern amenities are actively encouraged.

We’ll evaluate the degree of impact your proposal will have on your listed building in terms of architectural design, interior design and structural design. We’ll also provide a fundamental understanding of how the UK planning system works for listed buildings and how planning officers assess planning applications for listed buildings to ensure we’ll unlock the hidden potential of your listed building.

Secure your planning permission and listed building consent with ease

Planning permission and listed building consent are two separate processes and depending on the alterations you are seeking to make, you may need to secure both as carrying out unauthorised works to listed buildings is a punishable offence under Section 9 of the Planning Act 1990.

As a multidisciplinary team of chartered architects and town planners with extensive experience of both processes, we know what the planning officers are looking for when assessing listed building applications. Whether you would like to renovate, extend or convert your listed building, we’ll offer you expert advice and robust design and planning strategies to secure your planning consents.

Renovate, extend or convert your listed building

Your listed building can be refurbished, extended, converted and sometimes even demolished within government planning guidance. Local planning authorities look at proposals in their entirety, assessing previous works and balancing your site’s historic significance against function, condition or viability.

As chartered architects and town planners specialising in listed buildings, we’ll develop your design by researching your property’s location and provenance, and we’ll source original materials as well as historically accurate colour palettes to ensure compliance and aesthetic harmony. By working with us, the significance of your listed building will be reflected by thoughtful design and low-impact construction that adds value and enhances character.

Take control of your listed building project

Once we’ve secured planning permission for your listed building project, we progress to the Technical Design + Building Regulations stage, followed by the Contract Administration + Construction Inspection stage, where your idea will be transformed into fruition.

As listed building architects, we’ve worked with specialist listed building contractors, developed proven steps and a hands-on construction inspection approach all of which can help you avoid complications and keep your project on time and on budget. Working collaboratively, we’ll plan and build your proposal with minimal stress and complete your listed building project on time and on budget.

Listed Building Architects

When you own or manage a house or any other type of building that has been listed, you are committing yourself to caring for a national asset. Therefore, when you make any changes to a listed building, you need to work with architects who have experience in designing sensitive additions and improvements to heritage assets. Choosing the right conservation architect isn't easy - you are looking for a firm with a clear understanding of all the many rules and regulations governing historic properties, but also one that is receptive to your wants and needs.
