Local knowledge & expertise

As Richmond Architects, we specialise in crafting creative design and planning strategies to unlock the potential of challenging sites and buildings in the borough of Richmond upon Thames.

We work on residential projects primarily in Kew, East Sheen, North Sheen, Barnes, Mortlake, Twickenham, Hampton, Richmond and Richmond Hill.

We’ve been working in the area since 2013 and have a good relationship with the planning and building control departments of Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We’re familiar with their regulations and guidelines but, just as importantly, with what kinds of projects they are likely to approve and which ones they are likely to object to. We can shape your application so it has the best possible chance of being built.

Recognised as one of the best residential architecture firms in London, we work across the entire residential architecture spectrum with construction budgets of 100k - 10m. With a proven track record delivering home extensions, flat conversions, HMOs, new build houses and flats, we deliver incredibly successful projects for national house builders and seasoned property developers right through to first-time investors and homeowners.

The architecture of Richmond

Richmond upon Thames is considered an affluent suburban residential district. The Borough boasts a number of examples of lavish Georgian architecture. The style of this era is characterised by symmetry and classic aesthetic with buildings often constructed from brick or stone.

The mix of Georgia, Regency and Victorian architectural styles makes Richmond a unique borough of London, giving it more of a village-like feel. In an attempt to protect, preserve and enhance the architectural and historical character of Richmond, 85 conservation areas have been designated across the borough. This gives buildings and areas of high architectural merit, greater protection.

Notable buildings within the borough include Ham House and Garden, which is a 17th-century house in the Stuart architectural style, and Hampton Court Palace, widely considered an icon of Baroque architecture.
